Bay Fishing South Padre Island

Overview

The fishing on the bay is great fishing, Sheepshead, Black Drum, Whiting, and many others, including Red Fish. Bay fishing trips primarily target tasty sand trout and whiting but customers will also have opportunities to catch red drum and black drum. Customers can also bring their own gear if they desire, but Captain Murphy’s will not be responsible for it.

All persons fishing, ages 17 and older are required to have a valid Texas Saltwater Fishing License. You can easily purchase a fishing license online by going to Texas Parks and Wildlife website and Fishing License

Currently, there are no mask mandates or capacity limitations in place. You are welcome to wear a mask, but they are not required. We do make a practice of sanitizing the boat between trips, and our Captain and Crew frequently wash their hands.

We just got back from our bay fishing experience and it was more fun than we could imagine. We each caught some fish and we witnessed someone catch a shark. Our kids had fun and the crew Junior, Captain Brandon, there was another gentleman but I didn't catch his name were helpful. They even sang happy birthday to my friend so that was nice too. Highly recommend booking this.

Negatives: The captain was late, even though he was at the dock. We pulled away 20 minutes late. Then we came back 10 minutes early. That’s 30 minutes lost out of a 4 hour trip. There were hardly any fish caught during the trip. I know that is not their fault, but it just seemed like all of the bay fishing boats went to the same spots. We saw the same 3-4 boats the whole trip. I wish maybe they had tried a few different spots away from the other boats. Positives: The price of the trip was reasonable and the equipment was in decent condition. Rod, bait, etc. was included and all I’m working order. The crew even tried offering up some different bait to try and get some bites. The captain was pleasant and answered our questions. The best part was the deck hand Junior. He was very personable and approachable. He helped us out with all of the gear and was very engaging with the guests. He made the trip enjoyable and fun. I probably would have rated the trip much lower if it was not for him.
