My friend and I visited Alaska this past week and were lucky enough to do not one, but TWO Chugach operated trips- the kayaking and rafting.
On our first day, we kayaked among the icebergs on Spencer Lake. This experience was incredible. Although I had kayaked before a fair amount, my friend was quite nervous since she hadn’t been recently. She felt so safe as the guide’s instructions were clear and helpful. Our guide was awesome. He was so knowledgeable and took the time to answer my many questions, all with a smile on his face. Having worked for Chugach for several seasons in a row, he could describe the changes seen on the glacier over time and had extensive knowledge regarding the wildlife, glacial formations, and surrounding geography.
On our second day, we rafted from our campsite back to the train. Over the 7 mile trip, our guide took the time to describe the region’s history and the formations we could see around us. Our boat had a family with three little children on board, and she went the extra mile to ensure that both the adults and the children were entertained, happy, and comfortable. She made everyone feel relaxed and managed to maintain engagement throughout. We really enjoyed ourselves.
I would have absolutely no hesitation in recommending Chugach Adventures to anyone looking for a nice little day trip while in Alaska! In fact, I’ve been home from my trip for only a few hours and have already recommended them to friends!
