We took the Spencer Glacier raft trip as part of an Alaska Railroad tour package. The guides picked us up at the Spencer Glacier Whistle Stop and took us to their base camp on the lake. They provided rubber boots, life jackets, and ponchos. We had a small group and the two guides rowed us in a rubber raft across the lake (over a mile) to within a few hundred yards of the glacier. The views and colors were incredible. We were able to touch several icebergs along the way. After a 1 1/2 hour trip we returned to the base camp for a salmon bake dinner on the beach. Following dinner the guides took us back to the Whistle Stop for a short train trip to Girdwood where they shuttled us and our luggage to our hotel. A great experience!

My 67 year old mom and I did the animal conservation tour, train ride to Granview, kayak Spencer glacier FULL DAY experience. What a great day!! The logistics were very well organized, someone was available to help throughout the day. Great combination of activities. The kayaking was out of this world. We had a lovely day with Gwen and Tanner, our super sweet and knowledgeable guides. The equipment was very easy to use, including hand warmers during the kayak. The lunch and snacks were adequate. Certainly not gourmet, but definitely did the job. And come on, you're in the middle of nowhere, beautiful glaciers everywhere, don't worry about the food. I would absolutely recommend Chugach Adventures, and definitely Tanner!!

The Comet Heli Hiking and Spencer River Rafting adventure was clearly the highlight of our trip. We (our family of foru) spent an amazing day with Ari and Illiya as our guides. After meeting at the office we left by van for the Alpine Air hangar. We took off in 2 helicopters for an amazing view of the glacier and mountains. We opted for the glacier landing which was beautiful- the kids loved it. After that the helicopters took us up above the trail. From there we hiked through land and snow and found the trail down to the lake (all downhill, but still a good hike). The lake was quiet as we made it before the larger tours. We had lunch and spent some time rafting around the lake before heading downstream on the Placer River, again quiet, beautiful, and peaceful. We had a couple of quick stops on the river. Finally, we had a brief ride on the train back to the Portage Station before going back to our car at the office by van. Definitely a full day, and one not soon to be forgotten.
