I had a great time on the Spencer Glacier/Placer River float trip. The weather was pretty dismal, but the guides still made it a great trip. I did not do the Alaska Wildlife Conservation Center (I did it separately on my own), so I met the tour at the Portage train depot. The staff was great and got everyone fitted with boots. The short train ride to Spencer Whistle Stop provided some great scenery. Once there, it was a short bus ride to the lake. Floating among the icebergs beneath the glacier is definitely a once in a lifetime experience! We continued the float trip down the river and enjoyed cookies and hot chocolate before boarding the train back to Portage. A great day out and a great way to see Alaska "off the beaten path"!

Our guide Stuart picked us up at Alyeska Resort and we went to the Wildlife Conservation. Stuart was very knowledgeable and we couldn't stump him with a single question all day! He told us the animals names and all about them. He would run back, grab the van, pull it up to where we were, and continue on. It was very apparent that he loved his job. We got a bag lunch while getting our boots before getting on the train. The sandwich was fresh and everything was yummy. I was amazed at how smoothly this tour ran and how well coordinated it was. When we made it out on the lake, the wind came in and so did the waves. Somehow, Stuart single-handedly rowed us to the river, all while talking and smiling. Floating down the river, he accommodated all our wishes, including me joking about chocolate and hot cocoa! He really made sure that we had the best possible experience. I would definitely do another trip just like this, especially if he was our guide again! Beautiful scenery. Nothing like it. 5 stars because I can't give 10!

Man on man, we loved this! We have 2 boys (5 and 7) and had such a great time on this trip. It's really cool to see glaciers up close (not the big ones, but the ones that broke off). Our tour guide even got us close enough to taste some of the glaciers! The float trip itself was nice and relaxing and so quiet. It's lovely being the only raft company out there, as it's not crowded and so peaceful. My boys loved the train ride as well. All in all, one great adventure!
