Great day. We did the Conservation center and river float. It started with a picturesque train ride and a short drive to the Conservation center. we met our guide for the day who was a real hoot (I forget his name, big beard) He was knowledgeable about the animals as well as the goals and practices of the Center.. Then it was back on the train to the Glacier. Wow !!! The staff was pleasant engaging and extremely safety conscious. Many of them work the river in the summer and work the Ski resort for the ski patrol in the winter. The glacier and the lake were impressive and then down the river. Along the river our guide pointed out numerous points of interest , discussed the river surrounding areas history and culture at length. Always in an informative way, never over bearing. He even managed to serve hot chocolate and a cookie while we rafted down river. One suggestion bring extra socks as your toes might get a bit cold.

Very good trip. The first part is where they take you up close to icebergs that have broken off the glacier. Fascinating. And the water is in credibly cold. They then take you down the river which is incredibly peaceful and serene and picturesque. The river portion of the tour was probably too long with not enough interest for me.

My group of 3 joined guide Corey and 2 other people on the Spencer Glacier and Lake kayak around the icebergs. The train ride from Girdwood to Grandview was spectacular, and the kayaking at Spencer was so unique. It wasn't too challenging given you're on a lake, and I was especially impressed with how concerned with safety Corey was. He was constantly watching the wind/current on the lake and guided us around a safe distance around the icebergs vs other tour groups who allowed their groups to get dangerously close (apparently these things can flip on a moments notice!). He's also a photographer so we got some great group shots on the tour. I also appreciated how small our group was (5 people), which made the experience much more enjoyable as well.
