The Bishop Museum is first, a building of beauty outside and inside. The architecture is surprising, and the interior itself is grand. Add to that, it offers genuinely fascinating displays and interactive activities. We could only stay for five hours, but I would go back because we didn't see everything and there is so much history to learn and explore. DO spend the extra money and go to the Wayfarers program in the Planetarium to learn how they navigated by the stars and currents from southeast Asia through the vast Pacific ocean territories. These are fascinating and ancient cultures, too often overlooked in our Euro-centric education. I hope to go back again and see and experience even more. Pack a lunch and picnic on the beautiful grounds. Prepare to be impressed!

We spent an enjoyable and satisfying afternoon visiting the Bishop Museum to learn so much about the history and traditions of Hawaiian culture. As with a lot of very good museums with so many displays, time becomes the main challenge trying to get around to view all the different sections in a reasonable amount of time so you can properly appreciate it. I think you would need between 3-4 hours to properly view most things in the museum and then of course there is the planetarium that shows different types of videos as well to consider. Narrated tours and guided tours are also available if you prefer. Staff were very helpful with any queries and there was a cafe on site as well and a good gift/souvenir shop too.

I spent the afternoon at Bishop museum yesterday. What a gem of a museum. I spent time learning about navigating using the stars in the planetarium and the history of Hawaii in the Hawaiian Halls. I only wish I would have known about this gem of a museum earlier, I could spend lots more time there. The bottom line is: this is a place that everyone will enjoy.
