We did an all day tour of the valley. We went to places only reached by tour guides ,and cost was 135 each although we both loved the Valley, getting information from the "guide" was like blood from a stone. All in all disappointing would probably choose another tour company.

Wow! What a tour. Seeing Monument Valley from the over-looks was impressive enough, but this tour in a modified 4x4 through the valley, with a Navajo driver/guide who was so knowledgeable and interesting, was something else again. An outstanding 4 hours of my life that I will never forget. We passsed through settings reminiscent of so many western films and a traditional song and music were performed by guides in the Great Hogan at the far end of the valley, which was special. Our trip also included a traditional Navajo meal prepared and served at a picnic area in the shadow of the red sandstone monuments. What a spectacular dinner venue with the Navajo Taco made with 'frybread' beef, beans and salad vegetables tasting wonderful. We were able to watch the beautiful colours of the sunset at the end of the tour. The unexpected highlight of my trip.

We opted for the sunrise tour for something a little different. Well, we went to bed with our cell phones on Utah time and alarms set, and woke up to find that they had decided to switch to Arizona time (AZ doesn't observe daylight savings). Since we were a whole hour behind, I was convinced I had just lost the deposit money and tour altogether. We called Blackwater and they were very understanding and said that our tour guide didn't mind waiting for us. We felt horrible, but they made it seem like no big deal at all. The tour itself was amazing! Although we had missed the very early stages of sunrise, we caught some of it and it was breathtaking! The guide was very knowledgable in many areas - the creative names of all the monuments, history of the area, and he even pointed out specific places where many films have been shot there. I figured we'd get a speedy/half tour since we were late, but that wasn't so. The guide didn't seem rushed at all and gave us the full tour, which I felt went above and beyond. I'd definitely recommend Blackwater. Oh, and I'd definitely recommend the sunrise tour! We felt as though the valley was all ours... not another soul in sight! Upon finishing up, the cars started to roll in by the dozens.
