Overview

Discover the natural sights and scenery surrounding the Blue Ridge Parkway in Great Smoky Mountain National Park in an active way on a hiking tour with transport through the mountains from Asheville. You'll drive through some beautiful mountain scenery on the way visit three waterfalls and two protected forests . IMPORTANT Before booking this tour please know that we will be walking approximately 3 miles on the hiking portion of this tour over 2 hours at pace of about 1 1/2 miles per hour, including stops at the falls and you should feel comfortable walking this distance before making a booking. Snacks, drinks, and hotel pickup and drop-off by small-group vehicle (all window seats) are included. Tour is limited to seven people for a more personalized experience. Alternate tour routes are taken when the Blue Ridge Parkway is closed.

What To Expect

Blue Ridge Parkway

Your tour begins with pickup from your Asheville area hotel or accommodation by an air-conditioned van, which has all captains chairs for the drive to and along the Blue Ridge Parkway when open, which is also Great Smoky Mountain National Park an American treasure well known for its scenic beauty and remarkable mountain views. Sit back , relax and enjoy this stunning drive to our first waterfall in Pisgah National Forest before traveling a short distance to visit two more falls in a beautiful state forest. Along the way you'll listen to interesting stories about the rich history of the area that has been attracting people to the area for generations from your local Asheville guide. Wear comfortable shoes or hiking boots for the easy to moderate hiking portion of the tour. You should feel comfortable walking approximately 3.5 miles at one time during the hiking portion of the tour with stops along the way that will allow you time to enjoy falls, a snack and drink that is provided. Bring a small day pack if you have one. Safety is always a priority! After hiking, your tour concludes with transport back to your hotel, leaving you the rest of the afternoon to enjoy at your leisure.

Our tour guide, Keith, regaled us with history, local lore and even a poem in addition to providing safety tips and driving our group to beautiful waterfalls and scenic overlooks. The Blue Ridge Mountains still had fall color in early November, offering even more beautiful views. The waterfalls we visited were all impressive and ranged from easy to moderate in hiking skills. I really appreciated having a knowledgeable local do the driving, so the rest of us could enjoy all the scenery. If I visit Asheville again, I'll definitely take another tour with Tumblestone Tours.

I booked the hike & waterfall excursion for myself and five of my friends. Every one of us loved it! Keith was a great tour guide and is very knowledgeable of the area. And he brought snacks! Take time during your visit to Asheville to spend the day with Keith and Tumblestone Tours. We had a wonderful tour along the Blue Ridge Parkway and several easy, gorgeous hikes further in to see gorgeous waterfalls.
