Bright Angel Trail
Bright Angel Trail offers a wealth of day hiking opportunities on this tour! The trail switchbacks down from the South Rim Village to Mile and a Half Rest House, then 3 Mile Rest House, then Indian Garden at 4.5 miles and Plateau Point at 6 miles. So this tour can be done as a 3-mile, 6-mile, 9-mile, or 12-mile round trip hike. For ambitious travelers, Plateau Point (12 miles round trip) offers the most "bang for the buck" with stunning views of the Inner Gorge and the Colorado River. Indian Garden (9 miles round trip) is another excellent longer option with a shaded oasis with a spring-fed creek for a picnic lunch. And for less ambitious travelers, Mile and a Half and 3 Mile rest houses offer fantastic hikes.

My son and I wanted to do a hike into the canyon and we heard this was one of the more popular hikes. Shayne was awesome. We met at 6am as the canyon was going to be hot as the day wore on. This is a great hike as it allows you to take on a little or a lot. With stopping points at 1.5, 3 and 6 miles. We decided on the 3 mile which gave us a 6 mile round trip. According to my GPS, it is closer to 7.4 though. The hike should not be taken for granted. Going down is easy from the standpoint of endurance, but there are lots of logs and rocks that serve as steps and makes it even more difficult. Coming back up is not for the faint of heart. We were supplied with trekking poles which really help. We both had water camel packs, but Shayne came prepared with everything. He was a non-stop source of information and stories about the canyon. When we finished he provided a great picnic lunch. We plan on going back and doing the overnight version.

This hike was fantastic!! Shayne was so knowledgeable. He was so conscientious before, during and after the hike both for our abilities as well as safety. He went with our pace and we thoroughly enjoyed every moment. We have teens and they absolutely loved it too!! He was also super safe from a COVID perspective which unfortunately is necessary right now.

Excellent tour, with our guide Shayne. Everything was well organized and on time. He was equipped for anything. Including the fact that our camera phone went dead. He lent us his and sent us the pictures later. He packed a lot to bring down the trail. Our food, extra water etc. Very educational and the pace was as we wanted it. Definitely would go with him again for the longer trek. Just one grip. This is the Grand Canyon and you descend first. So the second half of the trip was all uphill! He didn't tell us that. We saw a lot we would have never noticed on our own. Great day. Lots of wildlife and great photo stops. We felt safe the whole trip (Covid-wise and Big Cliffs-wise).
