"Built on Beer" Walking Tour

Overview
Brewing high quality beer was an art form to many Cincinnati breweries and the buildings that housed their operations needed to be an extension of this passion. This tour shares the evolution of the brewing industry through the size, complexity, and architectural grandeur of the city’s historic breweries. We follow the Brewing Heritage Trail along the western portion of the Brewery District and marvel at the many remaining 19th and early 20th century structures, while sharing stories of those who built or doomed these brewing empires during beer’s industrial revolution. Tours include a visit into the vast subterranean lager cellars of the historic (non-operating) Jackson Brewery, as well as the historic Sohn Brewery, one of the few remaining examples of Mature Lager Period Architecture, and several Christian Moerlein Brewery sites along the way. We'll then go to a nearby local taproom for a pint of beer or soft drink, which is included with the tour. Approximately 1/2 mile of walking.

What a great way to start a visit to Cincinnati’s “Over-the-Rhine” area! Beginning with…why is it named that? Our guides, seasoned local history buff Lisa and history student Kanah were so engaging and well versed in the area history that I was captivated from the start. They shared many anecdotes that kept me fascinated throughout the 2 hour tour which culminated in…a stop at the old “ice house” now renovated Northern Row Brewery and Distillery. A definite “must-do” if you’re in the area!

This was a wonderful tour, encompassing an impressive range of Over-the-Rhine history and culture, through the lens of the beer industry. Our tour guide, Lisa, was knowledgeable and very personable. My family purchased tour tickets as a birthday present for our dad and the excursion did not disappoint. The "Built on Beer" tour is great for those who cannot go up and down large amounts of stairs - though there is some uneven terrain and some

The guides (Robert & Marcia) were very knowledgeable & very friendly. They were very interested in the subject matter and were eager to share historical details and answer questions. Most of the walk was outside, but was an easy walk. The guides made stops in the shade to tell stories & historical inforamtion, which helped keep everyone cool. We visited an o
