Old Exchange & Provost Dungeon
Stop by The Old Exchange & Provost Dungeon, one of the most haunted buildings in Charleston. Since the late 1600s, the Exchange and Dungeon have existed in one form or another. Once a walled prison, it has been a haven for those seeking freedom as well as a dark and gruesome spot for prisoners caught on the wrong side of authority.

While gathering at the fountain to start our tour, the guide explained to us how bad his day had been; details of which he reiterated at the first stop as the tour began. At each stop he began speaking as soon as he stopped, not waiting on the other 15+ members of the group to gather closely enough to hear. I have been on two other ghost tours in Charleston; while this one offered more details of the despair and lawlessness of Charleston during it's initial years, none of the ghost stories carried any new or more exciting information. A great tour guide has the ability to make repeated stories entertaining and guests raving about the tour. This one did not.

Previously, we have been on 4 ghost tours in 4 other cities and we were excited for this tour. We booked this tour based on tip advisor ratings. Those reviewers must have been on a different tour. Our tour started with the guide complaining about his day. We were a large group of about 20 people. As we walked around and at each stop, Don would not wait for the group to assemble to speak. He would just ramble on in a manner that was hard to hear. There were only a few ghost stories in the 2 hours. The other information was not interesting and not particularly unique to Charleston. We are sorry we wasted our time. There are so many other things to do in this fabulous and exciting city.

Lance was our tour guide and he did a great job of intertwining history and stories of the supernatural. It was a fun evening out and would recommend for anyone wanting to hear a different perspective of the history of Charleston.
