Jacque is a true local, a chef, a friend and neighbor to all the vendors in this remarkable Italian-American treasure, the 9th Street Market. You will meet the folks whose families established this market and every Italian culinary provisioner is covered. Ample opportunity to learn the stories of the market, taste, purchase and nibble! Jacque makes you feel like part of the family.

We were fully immersed into the local Culture and surroundings by our terrific guide Jackie. She walked us through the area while sharing her keen insights and genuine passion for local Italian history, hidden facts and delicious bites. We enjoyed freshly made cannolis, antipasti, Sicilian pizza, as well as assorted cheeses. A great day to hear history, food lore and enjoy the snacks.

We had a wonderful tour with Chef Jacquie. We loved her enthusiasm and knowledge of her “hometown” neighborhood which she brought to life. We had lots of opportunities to ask questions and Jacquie was well versed in the Italian history of Philadelphia. Our 1:30 tour started with a Sicilian tomato pie lunch. Delicious and very different from the round pizzas of Naples. Dessert was from a pastry shop that baked desserts for famous visitors to Phila including a Pope! We shared a cannoli that was unlike any we had eaten before. Crisp shell and light ricotta cheese filling. One of the stops was at a kitchen ware store that had everything you could think of for a home cook. We tasted lots of food from the shops and street vendors. Everything from olive oils, vinegars, cheeses and salumi. We ended the tour with a steaming hot coffee and almond biscotti. The biscotti were so delicious we ordered a tin as soon as we got home. What a way to experience a slice of Philadelphia’s vibrant culinary life.
