This would be my second time taking this tour!!! Chef Jacquie was so accommodating there were 10 girls we get together every few months so imagine all the chitchat that was going on amongst us us those Chef Jacquie fit right in very knowledgeable about the history of the market & the stores on the tour. I couldn’t ask for better company being led by Chef Jacquie. The food was sooo good! She put up with 10 women whom are very fussy and always talking, I was a little worried she would be thrown off by us. Guess what she Was NOT! We would do this again it was food, Fun, shopping and the best tour & Chef!!! I highly recommend booking a tour!!!!

Picking a star rating for this was difficult. Jacquie was sorta knowledgable and took us to some cool places but I had such higher expectations from the other reviews, website, and price paid. When I first booked the tour, she emailed me a couple days later that she was overbooked. We couldn’t do a later tour but agreed to meet her earlier. She was very easy to communicate with regarding the change and made it seem like we would still get our full tour. However, I didn’t know that many of the usual places wouldn’t be open that early. We also had paid extra for the ‘Abbondanza’ tour and didn’t receive the extras as described on the website. She seemed rushed and stepped aside to make phone calls twice while we were looking around the shops she took us to. The food was great and I was glad to have her recommendations, but it was not enough for lunch, certainly the least amount of food of any food tour I’ve been on. She concluded with us only a little more than an hour after our scheduled meet time and clearly had the next tour booked before ours should have ended. During the tour we were enjoying ourselves but it ended abruptly and we weren’t sure how to react. Upon reflection, I don’t think i can recommend this tour. I’m sure the tour would have been better if we had her full attention but I’m not sure who’s fault that is- maybe I should have cancelled after the first email, but she insisted she could still do our tour. I think Chef Jacquie is well meaning but ill equipped to be running a food tour company on her own.

Chef Jacquie took us on the VIP Italian Market tour for a first-rate, detailed and delicious three hours. We heard the story of the community, learned how local cooking and culture evolved, and tasted things that redefined our top-end for amazing Italian food. Whether it was little things like explaining how "wedding soup" got its name to explaining the concrete embossing on the sidewalks, Jacquie knows her context, content and delivers it all with confidence and a great style. You can see how much the various store and restuarant owners appreciate her and took the time with us to explore and explain. We left with a deeper appreciation for the history of South Philly and a bag full of good olive oil, balsamic vinegar and pastries! Highly recommended, so much fun, and now we have even more reasons to go visit.
