Comb Jelly Bioluminescence Kayak Tour

Overview
In the cooler Florida months, bioluminescent Comb Jellies congregate in the protected waters of the Indian River Lagoon. Living in the most bio-diverse estuary in North America, Comb Jellies are clear, glob-like creatures that, despite their name, do not sting! So as you paddle the calm waters laced with mangroves and palm trees, you can catch and hold these gentle glowing creatures. They're right at your fingertips while having a safe, awe-inspiring kayak adventure with those who share your enthusiasm for new and unique experiences.

In addition to the stars, the myriad of protected wildlife around you, and the Comb Jelly’s bioluminescence, their “ribs” are lined with cilia that they use to propel themselves, so when you cast a flashlight on them just right, they’ll also refract a dynamic rainbow-y light show! They’re right at your fingertips while having a safe, awe-inspiring kayak adventure with those who share your enthusiasm for unique experiences.

We had a perfect night for this. Stars were brilliant, no wind and calm water. We had to use 2 man kayaks but for our party of 4 it turned out to be a good idea. One disappointment was only 1 net per kayak so we had to take turns fishing for the jellies which is why I did not give 5 stars. The other disappointment was the jellies were not as big as I thought they would be. They were about the size of a quarter or half dollar. Not sure if it was the time of year or if this is just what they are. They did glow blue (think fireflies) and the guides were very informative. I recommend the tour just to be able to see a different phenomenon of creation.

We had a great time with Chad and Alyssa. A night tour, in the water, on a kayak, in Florida, can be intimidating. Chad was good at setting the tone for the trip with his great instructions and humor. Alyssa kept a calm feel to the tour to remind us to relax and enjoy the tour. She readily helped me while out on the water. Chad's excitement about the findings on the tour greatly appreciated to keep it enjoyable. Definitely recommend this tour and would love to come back and do it again. All of the tips sent by email were spot on and helpful. I really appreciate when people are enthusiastic and knowledgeable and confident about their craft and that made for a better experience.

We were looking forward to this for awhile. We picked their Merritt Island location simply because it was closer to where we were staying. We got lucky. The guide told us that the same location the week before was yielding only a few combs and their location the same. But we put the net in the water and we’re scoping up four or five times very time! They were amazing! Our guide, Buddy was excellent in giving us information about them and the area. Truly an amazing experience! The only bad was the wind but that was Mother Nature! We were in a double kayak which we weren’t use to, being experienced kayakers. Overall, a very enjoyable and educational trip.
