We had so much fun snorkeling and viewing the manatee. While we didn’t see many(because we are late into the season), swimming into the spring was a lot of fun. Our guide, Adrienne, was a blast and great with my 10 and 14 year olds. Our captain, Lauren, was super kind and had fun facts to share with us! I would definitely do it again, but earlier in the season.

Thank you so much for the terrific review. We are so happy you had a great time and enjoyed your tour with Adrienne and Lauren. While we do see manatees year round, you are absolutely correct that you will see significantly more manatees if you come when the weather is cold. When the Gulf of Mexico gets below 68F, the manatees who live there have to go into warm water to keep warm. Kings Bay is the largest wintering place for manatees in the world and we will have approximately 600-900 manatees there, keeping warm in the spring water. Once the weather turns warm, those manatees return to the Gulf, leaving our permanent population of 50-100 manatees. We hope to see you again!

Hi Dani, Thank you so much for choosing Crystal River Watersports for your tour, and for taking the time to write such a glowing review. We really appreciate it and will let Dakota and Lauren know about your review. One of my favorite things about our tour, that is unique in the area is the Eco-Tour portion of our voyage. As we go by the Archaeological Park and Preserve, we never know what we will see. The birds are always amazing, and we have been seeing the otter family, deer, dolphins and wild pigs as well. We are delighted you enjoyed your time with us.

We went on a Thursday, beautiful day, however the water is not clear. It’s in a river so it’s not clear. We did find some manatees and got to swim next to them and that was cool. Just terrible visibly. The tour guides were wonderful and entertaining!

Hi, Thank you so much for taking the time to write a review for us. We are delighted that you felt our guides were entertaining and that the manatees were cool. With any nature activity involving wild animals, in their native habitat the location is dictated by the animal. In spring, once the majority of manatees have returned to the Gulf of Mexico (their primary home), the manatees who live in Kings Bay year round know where to go to in Kings Bay where they still find food. (The manatees from the Gulf eat all the food located near/in the clear spring water where they gather to keep warm.) Unfortunately, that means that at times the only places we find manatees to swim with, are in murkier/less clear water. We hope that our guests realize that we do out best to find manatees in the clearest water possible for their tour. However, if the manatees are swimming/resting/eating in less clear water, then that is where we will end up snorkeling. The location of the manatees is entirely out of our control. Since manatees are still on the Threatened List, it is illegal to make them move or change their behavior in any way. Thank you for choosing us for your tour, and for taking the time to write a review. We greatly appreciate it. If you ever decide to come back and swim with our gentle giants again, when our weather is really cold (with temperatures going down into the low 40s or high 30s for several days) you will be more likely to see manatees in the clear spring water. Thanks, Sandi
