Large, comfortable passenger van arrived at our hotel right on time to take us on our tour. The Destrehen Plantation was excellent. It ‘s not one of the more popular plantations so it wasn’t crowded. There’s a great deal of history here and the Destrehen family were definitely shakers and movers in the area. Our guide at the plantation, Jordan, was fantastic. She was a wealth of information on the plantation itself and how it fit into the history of the area. On to the swamp boat. It’s a covered boat so when we did encounter some light rain, only folks by the open windows got a bit of it. Saw a few alligators, a raccoon and some birds. Our guide/pilot, Captain Ernie was great. Gave a ton of information on the area, its inhabitants and the local wildlife. Highly recommend this tour.

Tour guide coaxed an alligator and reached into water to pet him. Tour guide at plantation very knowledgeable and opened our eyes of how brutal slavery was.
