Overview
Beginning at the Bourse Building right across from Independence Hall and the Liberty Bell, plug into our multi-lingual headphone audio to discover the origins of America, where America’s Founding Fathers declared independence from England. Along the way, enjoy stunning views of such historic landmarks including the Christ Church Burial Grounds, Elfreth’s Alley, the Betsy Ross House, and Independence Hall.

As you head west, see the Friendship Gate in Chinatown, be amazed by the architecture of Philadelphia’s City Hall, and be sure to explore the various museums along Benjamin Franklin Parkway, including the Barnes Foundation – known as the world’s largest collection of post-impressionistic art in the world. As you continue your journey, marvel at Philadelphia’s growing skyline and get a bird’s-eye view from atop the One Liberty Observation Deck. Overall the tour was very nice. The narrator was excellent, great sense of humor, and knowledgeable about the area. We did not utilize the hop-on, hop-off, due to our time available and that our hotel was in close proximity to most of what we wanted to see, though I see it as a valuable option for those staying more on the outskirts of the city.

I am a big fan of the Hop On Hop Off buses and do them frequently when I visit a city that has them. I did not like the Philadelphia Hop On Hop Off at all. The map they sent me in my email for the start off point was not accurate and I wasted a half an hour trying to find it (the map said inside Franklin Square but it was really on the far side of The Bourse which it did mention in the description but not in the directions - having never been to Philly before, I didn't know the difference). Then the QB Scan they sent in my email didn't work and the lady at the start off point grabs my phone and starts digging through my email so she can email it to the headquarters (without asking). I get my phone back and find the email for her but really, she didn't need to be looking in my personal email to do this. I finally got a receipt that would work on the bus scanners and then no one ever scanned it. How do they even know I paid to be on the bus? The first tour driver was awful (think a female version of Billie Mays for Oxiclean but less funny and more obnoxious with obviously planned/rehearsed jokes that no one laughed at). The bus went through so fast that you couldn't really take pictures or anything. I basically paid $34 for transportation to Eastern State Penitentiary when I could have just taken the city bus and been less hassled (although more planning would have been involved for that so there's that point). The tour guide on the way back from Eastern State was much, much better. Joanne (tour guide) and Jerry (driver) were much more informative, relaxed and relatable. Joanne told interesting, funny stories about what we were going to see and it was enjoyable to listen to her. Overall, I would not recommend this Hop On Hop Off tour especially if you get the little, blond female guide - she was awful (like nails on a chalkboard awful).

We really enjoyed the tour. Ernest was our tour guide. He was absolutely fantastic. He made the tour fun and he loves the city. We did the two days. We recommended.
