What a great afternoon tour provided by BREW-ed last weekend. The tour was a gift from my cool niece to her cool aunt. We were entertained by history of Asheville, and our thirst was quenched by really nice beer selections. I would recommend this tour to anyone, and already have spread the word here in TN.

This tour was a lot of fun, the guide taught a lot about the brewing process and history of Asheville. We got to sample a number of great and different beer styles,

We took the Saturday afternoon walking tour-me, my wife (in our 50s) and my beer-snob son and his girlfriend (in their 20s). It was wonderful- informative and fascinating, a thinking person's brewery tour. And you get to drink a LOT of beer. It doesn't just cover the art of beer-making, although you will find out just about everything you every wanted to know about that. Our guide (same guy who is on the video on their web site) also talked about the different business strategies the three breweries we visited were following- each one exemplified a particular approach. He talked about the history of the American and British beer industries as it related to the evolution of different types of beer (the story you've heard about why IPAs are called IPAs is a myth). And he covered the interesting history of Asheville. He was witty and friendly and willing to answer any question. He was also generous with the pours. By the end you've got a nice buzz on and you've learned a lot (assuming you retain it).
