Amelia Island is full of rich history, and is the only location in America to have flown 8 independent flags. It’s rich history takes us on a journey through time including the Timucuan Indians who were our first inhabitants as far back as 2000 BC. The flags tell the story of religious struggle and persecution, the effect of Christianity disallowing any other God to be worshiped. The devastating impact of the Revolutionary war on the island and rebels acting in the name of higher power. Smugglers, slave traders and pirates have all had a part to play in the evolution of this Islands growth. This fascinating tour will take you on a journey through time and show you how such a small barrier island has had a major and little know impact on the history of America. What To Expect

Amelia Island

The eight flags tour takes you on a historical journey through all of the locations that those flags have flown over the islands incredible history. The only location in America to have had this number of independent flags. You will travel through the historic downtown district and out to the original Fernandina. On our journey we will cover each of the flags, the period from which they flew and the historical significance behind all of those dates from a historical perspective.

We did the Eight Flags Tour and the Golden Age Tour back to back and loved them both. We had already visited St. Augustine, Fort Clinch, and the Amelia Island Museum and had taken the Craig Cats to Cumberland Island so we already had good island overview. Eight Flags is NOT an island overview but rather an in depth tour of the events and people that made up the history behind the 8 flags that have flown over this area. The Golden Age or Guilded Age was an amazing tour if you have an interest in the homes & architecture from this era ….of the Vanderbilts’, Carnegies’, etc …similar to Newport, RI. We thought we knew a lot but Daniel taught us amazing amount of history and helped really link many historical events for us. We had adult beverages for both tours as well as water which always makes the experience more relaxed. It was a private tour with my wife and I. We think that some people may have been leaving Amelia because of the approaching Hurricane. I never looked at my watch during either tour as we were both captivated during the entire duration of both tours. It was a Wonderful afternoon that we spent with Daniel. So much history from our 8 Flags and historical homes from the Gilded Age. The time did fly by and our adult beverage special by direct booking only certainly gave us a more relaxing environment!
