Amelia Island is full of rich history, and is the only location in America to have flown 8 independent flags. It’s rich history takes us on a journey through time including the Timucuan Indians who were our first inhabitants as far back as 2000 BC. The flags tell the story of religious struggle and persecution, the effect of Christianity disallowing any other God to be worshiped. The devastating impact of the Revolutionary war on the island and rebels acting in the name of higher power. Smugglers, slave traders and pirates have all had a part to play in the evolution of this Islands growth. This fascinating tour will take you on a journey through time and show you how such a small barrier island has had a major and little know impact on the history of America. What To Expect

Amelia Island

The eight flags tour takes you on a historical journey through all of the locations that those flags have flown over the islands incredible history. The only location in America to have had this number of independent flags. You will travel through the historic downtown district and out to the original Fernandina. On our journey we will cover each of the flags, the period from which they flew and the historical significance behind all of those dates from a historical perspective.

It was my husband’s and my first trip to Amelia Island. We learned so much history on the eight flags tour. Dan was an excellent tour guide. He was not only extremely knowledgeable, but funny and entertaining as well.

It was great to take you out on a tour of the of the island including some of the incredible houses in our historic downtown area. So much history and twists on American culture from this tiny fun packed island.

This was my second tour with historic tours. So much info given you can’t digest it all in one tour. Daniel is extremely knowledgeable and always makes it a comfortable, enjoyable tour. I recommend it for anyone visiting Amelia island and even local residents.

Gregor MacGregor was truly a colorful character. He wore many hats over his illustrious career in traveling the world. Fame, fortune, land ownership and status, all passed through MacGregors hands over his frequent travels. A really interesting soldier and a fascinating read for any long evening.
