What To Expect
1
Exit Glacier
This is where your Glacier Hiking Adventure takes place. The hike up the mountain is approximately 1.5 miles, with 1,500 feet of elevation gain - this is the most physically exerting part of the trip. This is the part of the trip that requires the overall rating to be Strenuous. 8-Hour Tour: The 8-hour tour departs at 8:00am and returns at 4:00pm. The whole tour will last about 8 hours in total, with the possibility of spending upwards of 2 to 4 hours on the ice! The "ice-time" all depends on how long the hike up the mountains takes as a group. We do not rush any part of this trip, and the group will move together at a comfortable pace. *The 8-hr tour offers a more relaxed/flexible pace with more rest breaks, if needed.

Kenai Fjords National Park
At the edge of the Kenai Peninsula lies a land where the ice age lingers. Nearly 40 glaciers flow from the Harding Icefield, Kenai Fjords’ crowning feature. Wildlife thrives in icy waters and lush forests around this vast expanse of ice. Native Alutiiq relied on these resources to nurture a life entwined with the sea.

We are an active family of five. We chose the exit glacier hike with hopes to experience the Alaskan outdoors and to learn and explore the exit glacier. Our tour started at the KBA shop, where we were greeted by Liv, our tour guide for the day. Our experience was amazing. Liv was super knowledgeable, friendly, funny and passionate. The hike itself was really cool. The first 2 miles ascended to the edge of the glacier. From there, we strapped on the cramp-ons and began our trek up the exit glacier. This tour definitely exceeded my expectations. We enjoyed our guide Liv, and I would absolutely recommend this tour.

Wow- what an AMAZING experience on Exit Glacier with Kenai Backcountry Adventures! From the very start, the KBA staff looked after all of our needs and concerns, from helping us pack our backpacks to sizing and fitting our crampons... Nathan, Cedar, Liv, Shea and Kyle were incredible- knowledgeable and engaging, patient and professional. We explored jaw-dropping routes on the glacier, getting up-close-and-personal with moulins, crevasses, ice shelves and other spectacular features. They went above-and-beyond to ensure we had an awesome experience- cannot recommend highly enough! Thanks, KBA!
