You get free admission to the 1850 House if you purchase a ticket for the walking tour of New Orleans. The house provides a good glimpse of what a New Orleans house looked like in the 19th century. In the beginning, I was a bit unsure as to how good the walking tour would be given that the guide Joos was not a New Orleans native. He is Belgian, but he loved history and the tour was excellent. There were only three people on the tour and it was a nice small size. Joos knows New Orleans history well and answered many of our questions. It was a hot and humid day, but it was still worthwhile.

We took a two hour tour with Regine. Lots of information and suggestions for places to visit. The tour is hard work in the heat but they try and keep you out of the sun where possible and much better than a coach trip. We did both and this was much more informative. The tour is great value for money and our guide, who is a volunteer was amazing. We have travelled throughout the US and this really was one of the best. We visited New Orleans last year and due to bad weather had to cancel a coach trip, we decided that a walking tour may be better ad it was tha best decision we made. The best thing is that they are a non profit organizations and help towards the upkeep of the history and collections of New Orleans and you are helping protect this for future generations. House 1850 is included with the tour and worth a quick visit.

Suzy was our guide on the French Quarter walking tour. She had a plethora of knowledge about the area, buildings, and people of this historical area of New Orleans. I would highly recommend this tour as all proceeds go directly back to preserving the history and not into someone's pocket. Make sure to tip your tour guide as they are all volunteers! Thanks Suzy for your knowledge and all that you are doing to share your knowledge of the French Quarter!
