I decided to take a tour of the French Quarter today thru Friends of the Cabildo in New Orleans. I'm really glad I did. Our tour guide was Clare and she was very good. She was quite knowledgeable and covered a lot about the French Quarter in two hours. You can tell she loves what she does and it comes out in her tours. The tour itself covered quite a bit about the history of New Orleans through the French and Spanish perspective. If you want a good informative tour of New Orleans, this is a good place to start. The $20 tour fee also includes admission to the museum which I am going to see at another time.

Our guide Colleen showed us beignets as they were being made, painted for us the scene of a dramatic crime where it happened, took us around the French Quarter's highlights and provided a perfect mix of tourism advice, local color, and historical insights along the way. She even offered to personally guide us through the 1850 House Museum. I'd recommend this tour over the couple others I experienced in the city. And as a person who's toured across America and Europe, it certainly stands out for at least one of its staff.

We did the two hour walking tour that started from 1850 House (523 St. Ann St.) Our guide Daniel was fantastic and made allowances for the rain. I think we did not do as much walking because of the rain. We covered the history, geography and so much more about the area. Daniel was also able to answer questions we had stemming from his talk. Definitely worth the time.
