My husband, son, and I swung down to NOLA a couple weeks ago and booked this walking tour of the French Quarter at the last minute. Our tour guide Mac Corbin, was great! Very engaging and knowledgeable, easy to listen to, passionate about the information he was sharing, and even willing to research and get to us with more information after the tour via email. Also my 4-year old is in a wheelchair and everyone from the lady selling us the tour at 1850 House to Mac were incredibly helpful and accommodating of him. I highly recommend the tour itself if you're a history lover!! ACCESSIBILITY -- If you're an adult in a wheelchair it may be a bit difficult w/o the assistance of someone pushing because the streets of the French Quarter are old and uneven at times. We had no issues w/ my son because he's small and we could pick him up when necessary. Call beforehand to ask, and if you can't have someone with you to help.

I have taken many guided tours of the French Quarter over the years. I grew up in the area and didn't think I could learn anything new about the French Quarter...Boy was I wrong! This was one of the most engaging and informative tours I have ever been on. I ended up going on tours with 3 separate guides on different days (I had some people in town showing them around) Grey, Josh and Vicki were the guides.... Each tour was filled with new information depending on what the guide's special interest were. The guides are all volunteers for the Friends of the Cabildo Charity that supports Louisiana State Museums in the Quarter. They go thru rigorous training on New Orleans history and are encouraged to do research on their area of interests. If you are a history buff, this is the tour for you. If they don't know the answer to a question, which is unlikely...they will find out for you :-)

Like JasonCA, I also opt for the tours that support a local historical society or museum. The Cabildo's tour was wonderful. And my group only had 6, so it was easy for us to manuever the French Quarter. The Cabildo's guides are extensively trained, and John McCurdy was very engaging. If you have more than a day and a special interest in a particular culture, historic period, architecture, or music, then it might be worth it to ask at the 1850 House if a particular guide is scheduled who could match your interest. Take a bottle of water and wear comfie shoes, you are in for a treat.
