I took the French Quarter walking tour with Pam. She was so nice, I felt like I was being guided by a sweet, gentle friend. She was a knowledgeable ambassador of New Orleans. Thanks, Friends of the Cabildo!

I was lucky enough to pass by a sign advertising this tour today just before the second tour started. It was the perfect tour for me. The guide was animated and clearly enjoyed the subject of New Orleans. Different periods of New Orleans history were discussed in enough detail for participants on the tour to understand their influence on the city. The architectural styles of homes in the French Quarter were discussed in detail. Our guide also pointed out items in the street scape (e.g. cleverly disguised cell phone towers) that I had been walking by without noticing. We learned about the waves of immigration that have shaped the city and some of the influences different ethnic groups have had locally. Several interesting historical anecdotes and the enthusiasm of our guide kept the tour from being a series of lectures. She was extremely helpful and answered all of our questions. The pace of the tour may depend on the guide and the participants. We walked quite quickly between stops and covered a lot of ground. I would not describe the tour today as leisurely. But it was a perfect pace for me (I would probably get impatient with a very slow pace). I have been having a great time in New Orleans. But this tour definitely gave me a deeper understanding of the city's culture and I highly recommend it.

Fantastic leisurely walking tour of the French quarter of New Orleans, during Mardi Gras. Richard the guide was superb. I would recommend anyone that has 2 hours spare that it could not be better spent.
