When we went to meet up with Garl, we were expecting an all-day tour and kayak. Basically, the half of the day was spent waiting for Garl to fill up his gas tank and eat snacks. We literally did the exact same things as the half-day people, and by the end of the day, we didn't even go kayaking! You should bring a camera, hat, and an extra set of clothes to change into afterwards. Over all, "Garl's Coastal Kayaking Everglades" was a big rip off! If you want to try this, definitely do the half day. (But this is still a total rip off!)

For our potential customers, please review the well over 200 5 star reviews about this trip and know that this is a false review. We have literally never run a trip that we didn't go kayaking on (that is exactly what we do on every single trip) and the part about Garl eating all day is baffling- he literally never eats in front of customers. What a bizarre attempt to lower our ratings. At any rate, please feel free to contact us with any information and hopefully this review will be pulled, as it's obviously not someone who went on a trip.

My girlfriend and I came to the keys and decided we wanted to go on an Everglades tour. After not being able to get in touch with any other tour we decided to look on trip advisor and found this one. Boy are we glad we did! We were not able to arrange transportation from key largo to homestead where this tour meets. After exhausting bus schedules and canceling out taxis (it was much too far for a taxi ride) we asked them if they could pick us up that day and we had given them about an hours notice. Garl and his girlfriend went out of their way to make sure we could attend and arranged for us to be picked up! It was an unexpected and pleasant surprise! The tour started with our small group traveling on foot through the everglades national park to see amazing plants and a few alligator holes where we saw our first alligator! After this we went on a freshwater kayaking adventure through the mangroves where we saw many more alligators up close and personal! We then ventured off to a saltwater bay where we saw many fish and watched the sunset on a leisurely paddle. Just as we thought it was over, on the way home we stopped for an alligator night watch. We saw about 40 alligators many of which were eating fish about 5 feet under the bridge we walked on! What a great finish to the night! It was the best 150 we spent on this trip and you get a full day. We left at 12 and got back at 11 pm. This is the ONLY way to see the Everglades! Garl is not only very nice and knowledgable but also very interesting to listen to!

I was admittedly hesitant about taking our 7 and 10yo boys into the back country of the Everglades. After just 5 minutes with Garl, I knew we were in good hands. We did the full day tour. Garl took great photos of the wildlife (and of us interacting with the wildlife), so we didn't have to bring our Nikon on the trip. We did, however, bring our Nikon Coolpix, as it is waterproof, and it was sufficient. Garl's photos make up for what we couldn't get on our own. The tour was varied with two good hikes into two Cypress Domes, which our boys loved and handled just fine. Then we did a fantastic kayak trip through the mangroves. We started on the night hike, but the rain started to fall, so we had to cut it short (by then we were all beat - kids and grown ups alike!). Garl knows the territory inside and out and his knowledge of the various ecosystems is unsurpassed. Our boys loved it and we had a fabulous time seeing things that we normally would not have been able to see on our own. Simply amazing. Thank you, Garl!!
