Overview
ACCESS TO SOME LOCATIONS, INCLUDING LAFAYETTE CEMETERY MAY BE RESTRICTED DURING THE COVID-19 PANDEMIC

Boasting the world’s largest collection of 19th century American Southern style mansions, the Garden District of New Orleans deserves special attention and a tour of its own! View unique architecture, oak tree-lined streets, manicured gardens, and the homes of some of America’s most famed celebrities—both past and present—as you leisurely stroll through this neighborhood. Stop at Lafayette Cemetery No. 1, arguably America’s most infamous graveyard. The above ground crypts of this “city of the dead” have appeared in numerous blockbuster films including “Double Jeopardy,” and “Interview with the Vampire.” Other highlights include Briggs-Staub House, Colonel Short's Villa, Commander’s Palace restaurant, Lonsdale House, Musson House, Payne House, The Rink, Robinson House, Toby-Westfeldt House, and celebrity homes of Anne Rice, Sandra Bullock, Ella Brennan, and John Goodman.

I took this tour with two teen aged girls and we all loved it! We went in October, so the temperature was quite nice and of course the Garden District is beautiful. Just be aware of uneven sidewalks and a few other tripping opportunities!

Stephen did a fantastic job on this super hot day. He was strategic in finding shady places for us to stop and talk, was full of historical knowledge on the tour stops and had relevant personal anecdotes to share as well. He talked about architectural details of the homes, how owners maintain them and how the houses function in present day, and knew where lots of famous residents lived. He was very patient in waiting for us to take pictures that we were happy with- not an easy feat when the beautiful homes are so huge! I loved that the tour was kept small- we passed a group of 12 and I can't see how such a big number would work well on a this tour. He also personally made sure we all knew what we were doing and where we were heading after the tour and thoroughly answered any questions we had. Bonus points for referencing The Sound of Music and Mary Poppins at the beginning!

Our guide was very informative and kept the tour extremely interesting at a very relaxed but very good pace. The scenery of the beautiful Garden District and the history of the cemetery was terrific.
