Germaine's Luau

Overview
The highlight of the show is the Samoan Fire-knife dance, known as the "Tooth of Death". In the original interpretation, this dance was performed with a dangerously sharp blade.

The story behind the dance is of a Samoan chief making a movie for Hollywood many years ago. He decided to include the flaming torch in his part to make the dance more spectacular.

The show also includes the energetic Samoan Slap Dance, a traditional display of male prowess. True to the name, the dancers slap their chests, arms and legs repeatedly throughout this segment. For Samoan men, this was an opportunity to demonstrate their bravery and courage.

Great Luau! Great food, great show, great transport. We sat on wooden picnic benches so my tiny butt was starting to hurt. Husband and I got up to walk around and the show ended not long after that. Thought it was good timing. If youā€™re gonna book, hereā€™s a tip: keep your god dang cell phone down. There is no need to record the entire performance. Youā€™re never going to watch it and it really sucks for the people behind you. Instead of watching the show, we watched it though the lens of other peoples cell phones. SMH

Personal review on Germaineā€™s Luau We attended (myself, 11 year old and 15 year old) last night. I deliberately booked a Saturday night because I assumed people would want to have a good night out. How wrong I was. Not only was our bus transfer (at a cost of $35USD pp) 15 mins late, meaning we had been waiting in the heat for 25 mins (as they ask you to get there 10 mins before pick up) but the driver then told people to get off at the next stop and go into the shops to the bathroom. There was zero organisation for this and people would decide they needed the bathroom just as he was about to close the doors meaning another 5+ minute wait. When we got to the Luau there are two lines, one for the general package and one for the Plumeria (or VIP). I paid for the Plumeria package. With this package we were given ā€œpriority seatingā€ ā€œpriority eatingā€ two photos and 3 drinks per person. The alcoholic drinks were terrible. And the kids, buying them the plumeria package was pointless as there is a free soft drink bar for the whole evening anyway! Oh and the priority seating was around half a metre closer than the cheaper seats. The line up for food was fine, even those who hadnā€™t paid for the Plumeria package were in the same line & there really was no advantage to the additional cost. The food - absolutely disgusting. Every person on our table - myself and my kids, a nurse couple from Alabama and a mother, her child and the childā€™s grandmother - were all really disappointed with it. The pig was flavourless which was surprising as when they took it out of the ground it smelt amazing. The bread and butter mad e us all laugh as they donā€™t provide a butter knife so everyone was using their plastic forks, the salads were average and the rice was ice cold. They also advise that you can go up for seconds, however noted that tables around us were complaining they wanted more bread but the buffet was closed with no warning. The ā€œbarā€ was two people serving over 200 attendees and one of them closed when we commenced eating. The entertainment was boring. The MC was a female who thought she was friendly and charismatic but she brought nothing to the night. There was no entertainment through out dinner. We arrived, were welcomed by the king and queen which was really underwhelming, we were fed in silence and then forced to sit through 2 boring hours. The only half decent thing that we saw was the 5 minutes of the fire show. Due to the Aussie dollar, booking this months ago, inclusive of the package and transfers - the fact that this cost me around $900AUD I am really really disappointed. We came home hungry, tired from the drive and hoping to never have to sit through a luau again.
