What a great time hiking Bunsen Peak with Emily Jo, our guide! Everything was precise and timely and this day outing was our highlight of Yellowstone National Park. The hike is as described on the website. Our guide allowed for breaks as needed. She was knowledgeable regarding flora and fauna and made learning fun and enjoyable. She has a great spirit about her founded in kindness and enthusiasm. The hike does involve going up a peak so itā€™s not flat (yay!). We had a beautiful day on Bunsen Peak. We saw a bald eagle, grouse and trumpeter swan. We did not see bears, but their evidence was everywhere. We also saw bison and marmot. We might have seen more wildlife but itā€™s birthing season so many animals are more furtive. The spring wildflowers were beautiful and the elevation and slope exposure changes along the hike allowed one to see a lot of flora variety. We prepared as the website instructions specified and things went well. The weather can change quickly and dramatically and thatā€™s part of the experience. Layering is important! Emily Jo emphasized safety and that was much appreciated particularly with respect to grizzly bear safety. While we did not see bear on our hike, we saw them later and the safety lessons were much appreciated! My only piece of general advice which can effect your day are road conditions. Please check road construction and travel conditions ahead of time (Yellowstone NPS website is a good start). Cell reception in Yellowstone is poor to nil so keep that in mind (if possible, talk to a ranger for any last minute developments!). The hiking trip and planned itinerary depend on meeting up on time to have a great day! And add the extra time for traffic jams due to bison or other wildlife on the road! We allotted ourselves more time ā€” and had two bison road delays of more than 20 minutes and were relieved to have the time cushion. Josh at Yellowstone Hiking Guides provided this advice by phone when I called for other questions (thank you!). We had a great experience with Yellowstone Hiking Guides! It was a privilege to learn more about the area, speak with one who lives in the region, and understand how knowing more about Yellowstone also means being a better future steward! Get off the road and go for a hike! It was the best part of our weekā€™s excursion. Finally. Iā€™ve been coming to Yellowstone since 1966 and many times since. I know my way around the area. But because Iā€™m not a native of the area, I wanted an experience where Iā€™d actually learn more about Yellowstone as part of my visit. This was a rewarding experience in that regard and if you want to hike and learn, this guide service is your ticket!

We booked our hikes months in advance recognizing the early season timing (May 14 - 16) ran a risk of residual snows changing our plans...and sure enough two hikes (Bunsen Peak and Lone Star Geyser) weren't available but Josh and Emily Jo suggested two alternatives which turned out to be excellent. We had an outstanding experience for the three days we were with them as they shared their deep knowledge of Yellowstone...wildlife, geology, flowers and vegetation, history. The hikes allowed us to see the wildlife that emerge in the spring season...baby bison calfs, young deer, elk, grizzly cubs (from safe distances), marmot, coyote, wolf, eagle, galloping pronghorn; the emerging flowers and the raging rivers. We highly recommend Yellowstone Hiking guides and hope to return to Yellowstone again some day!

THANK YOU! What an exploration of Yellowstone. It was such pleasure getting to know y'all and finding the true beauty of Yellowstone. We look forward to exploring more of Yellowstone with you in the future! And, also, thank you for our new addiction. The Kringles were to die for! You bet we'll be enjoying more from OH in the near future! Thank you so much! Best wishes, Emily Jo and Josh

My husband and I LOVED our hike in Lamar Valley with Yellowstone Hiking Guides. Emily Jo and Rachel were our guides for the day, and both obviously love the outdoors, and sharing it with others. We had a small group, which was nice, made it very easy to hear, and keep the group together. They had a good prescribed path that they knew would lead us near lots of wildlife. They also made sure to point out the wildflowers and geology as well. All scopes, walking sticks, binocs, bear spray, and lunch were as promised. They covered all safety aspects, and made sure we stopped regularly for water breaks. The highlight of the day was definitely seeing a bison give birth. Never expected to see that in the wild! We are sure we never would have seen that if we had attempted to hike on our own. We would absolutely used Yellowstone Hiking Guides again.
