What To Expect

Grand Canyon of the Yellowstone

Your expert guide will meet you at the Pavilion next to the Upper Falls Parking Area at 8AM. This is also the staring point for Uncle Tom's Trail. The hike is a 6-mile loop. The hike is along the Canyon Rim, through the forest out to Ribbon Lake, and then past a geyser basin, Clear Lake, and the Wapiti Meadows with big views of the Hayden Valley. If you hike one trail in Yellowstone this is it!

We had a great experience with Josh + Emily, while on the Lamar Valley Hike. They were very knowledgeable and entertaining and gave us many good tips and recommendations for additional hikes, to take on our own, while in Yellowstone and Gand Teton. Very good people. I would highly recommend them!

Josh and Emily made our hike to the back country of Yellowstone a unique experience.Their professionalism and enthusiasm for what they do is unsurpassed. We had the good fortune to see 2 bull moose and a grizzly on our hike at Specimen Creek on a crisp Fall day of perfect weather. I am not sure who enjoyed the wildlife sightings more, us or them. They served us a beautiful vegetarian lunch at our request and they were full of knowledge about the wildlife and geology of Yellowstone Park. We will surely measure all other back country hikes by the excellent standard of this one. Thank you for an exceptional trip!

Had an incredible day hiking with Josh and Emily Jo. They went above and beyond in every way during our 10mi hike of Bunsen Peak and Osprey Falls. Unbelievable scenery, delicious lunch, great company. Josh & Emily Jo clearly care so much about what they do. They were accommodating - flexing to our schedule, allowing us solo time to enjoy the hike as a family, and extending our scheduled hike of Bunsen Peak to a much longer hike to Osprey Falls. They spent a full day with us, for no additional charge. On top of it all, they're just really fun to spend a day with. They shared tons of information about the park and its history & we laughed a lot all day. One real highlight was that Josh and Emily Jo took pictures throughout the day and then shared dozens of them with us after our trip. The pictures were amazing and such a lovely way to remember one of the absolute highlights of our time in Yellowstone and Grand Teton. They also took care to email us links to specifics books we'd discussed during the day - a small detail that really shows how engaged they are, how much care they put into what they do. Can't recommend Yellowstone Hiking Guides highly enough.
