My family of 4, two parents and two teens, rode in the dome class on the Grand Canyon Railway today. The seats were comfortable, but the less expensive first class clearly had more comfortable seating and more space to stretch out. There really isn’t much to see to make the dome worth the extra cost. The free snacks and beverages were nice (canned sodas, juices, fruit, pastries veggies, crackers, cheese, dip). The live music was cheesy, but entertaining. The train robbery on the return trip was staged to be funny. For example, there were preset rules for the robbery. There was a nice complimentary champagne/apple cider toast on the return trip. Our car hostess was attentive and cracked several cheesy jokes of her own. Sadly, none of that made up for how painstakingly slow the train moved. Think about the slowest thing you can imagine. This train moves slower. Slower than pouring molasses in January. Slower than a sloth during a nap. So, so slow. I felt like so much of our time was lost because of the time it took to get there and back. If you decide to take this trip, bring a double dose of patience. We also took the Freedom Tour once we arrived at the south rim. As a first time visitor, this made me feel more comfortable about where to go and what to see. A lot of explanation was given about the geology of the canyon, its history, and current status.

Yes it is corny, according to some, an so what? The train boards in back of the Grand Canyon Railway Hotel. Along the track is rail-related décor, which makes for fun photo ops. The attendants for the cars are standing at the doors to ensure you are at the right place. Our car had comfy seats, wide aisles and a good sized, clean bathroom. I can't say enough about our car's attendant, Angie Lynn(?). Friendly, knowledgeable and professional, she kept us engaged with history and friendly banter during the ride to the canyon. There was a concession car which I did not visit, but many others did. Sure, there were some corny additions, but close your eyes if it bothers you. It doesn't last long. The entertainers are professionals and they could read body language quite well. Once at the Canyon, we transferred to a bus which took us to two or three stops, including a clean restroom. We were taken to a clean "relief station" en route to the first scenic stop. Back at the train stop, there are restaurants and gift shops. If you have trouble climbing, ask if there are options for dining or getting up the hill. When it was time to leave, Angie Lynn saw me struggling to get back to the car. She immediately grabbed a wheelchair for me, and made sure I got back safely. I would recommend this tour to anyone. The scenery is great and we learned a lot about the areas we passed through, from Angie Lynn.

Took our 7-year old grandson on the Grand Canyon Railway trip from Williams to the Grand Canyon. Booked a room at the Bright Angel Lodge for 1 night and took the train back the next day so we had more time at the Grand Canyon. Excellent experience for both our grandson & us. Our rail car host, Donna was awesome! Would highly recommend. Rode in the Pullman car - the least expensive trip and it was fine.
