Half Day Grand Teton Wildlife Safari Tour

Overview
Explore the National Elk Refuge, home to thousands of wintering elk, hundreds of bison, bighorn sheep and an array of bird life before venturing into Grand Teton National Park. Jackson Hole’s wintering wildlife is abundant with opportunities to see bison, elk, deer, moose, fox, coyote, bald eagle, trumpeter swans, and if we’re lucky, wolves. If time allows we might also choose to stop at the Jackson Hole Visitor Center or the new Moose visitor center in Grand Teton National Park. The route varies seasonally based on group interest, road closures and wildlife migration.

Grant was waiting outside my hotel minutes before he was even expected. We got a head start and picked up 2 other people at another hotel to start our safari. We immediately drove around the areas Grant knew and saw big horn sheep, bald eagle, and elk. We arrived at another spot where Grant knew there were likely to be Moose and sure enough, a small herd of about 10-12 moose were in this field of sage brush. Some of the bulls were sparring. We saw another group of wildlife spotters watching something across the valley through spotting scopes. Apparently a wolf was out in the valley chilling under a tree about a mile away. We spotted more elk further out of the refuge area near Jackson itself which was cool and then saw a coyote atop a large hill, giving us some cool profile shots. Mule deer and even white tail deer were spotted (which I didn't know were in Wyoming) and as we proceeded towards a butte to watch the sunset, we spotted a pine martin darting amongst the trees. Perhaps the smallest but coolest critter of the day. Overall a nice experience. Pretty relaxed and the guests help dictate where to go or what to see and the guide tries to connect us with being in the right place at the right time. Definitely pricey, but if you're not familiar with the area and prefer to have someone that knows it show you around it makes sense. Plus, the guides get other info from other guides so they have more of a "forecast" for where to specifically look each day.

We had a great time. Our guide, Dave, was very knowledgeable, friendly and attentive to his guests. I highly recommend this tour.

So I've actually never written a review for anything before, but I was inclined to give these guys the credit that they deserve. My husband and I did a half day winter safari and it was everything we hoped it would be and more! Our guide, Dave was extremely friendly and knowledgable. Dave picked us up at the Four Seasons in Teton Village, which made things super easy for us. We saw tons of animals and were able to get close to them and see them in their natural habitat. It was incredible. We were a little nervous that this would seem a bit touristy, but tons of locals recommended it and this tour was such a great recommendation and really gave us a chance to experience the wildlife that is so important to the people of Jackson Hole. From the booking process to the actual tour, to everything in between, our experience was great. We can not recommend this enough!!
