Half Day Snorkel Trip on Reefs in the Florida Keys

Overview

Come join us snorkeling some of the most beautiful reefs within the Florida Keys National Marine Sanctuary and Pennekamp State Park. We have many possible reefs to explore: Molasses, Elbow, French Reef and the famous Christ of the Abyss on Dry Rocks. These protected areas offer an opportunity to see turtles, spotted eagle rays, moray eels and a variety of different fish. These special reefs are part of the 3rd largest living reef system in the world and the ONLY living coral reef in the US. We stop at two different locations on the reef. Each stop is determined by the captain based on the day's conditions. We cannot guarantee any specific site.

In an effort to reduce the amount of single-use plastic that ends up in our oceans, we recommend bringing a reusable water bottle. We have water coolers in our shop and on our boats for your convenience!

Neat locations, Make sure to note though that this is actually a dive tour. They go to places that are good for divers and the snorkelers can snorkel, but our tour was very rough, water was flooding the boat from the waves being so high. This really was not a trip for first time snorkelers or people who want a relaxing snorkel trip. Half of our group are experienced certified divers, but we did the snorkel trip with the kids. There were two diving lessons going on so a lot of the focus was on getting the divers on and off the boat. Crew was friendly and tried to make it fun, water was just too rough for good snorkeling.

Yes we are a Dive and Snorkel company and unfortunately the weather is out of our control. We go to shallow spots for divers and snorkelers to enjoy but you are correct is the wind is blowing it maybe a bit rough. When we know prior to the trip the conditions we do let the customers know. First, the convenience of being on property of our resort was awesome. But the staff are really the stand-out here. Office staff were excellent in assist us with a reservation issue. We did the half day snorkel trip. The crew of the boat were awesome. Very helpful, energetic, and fun! The snorkel sites were great. The gear seemed newer and clean. They really took care of us. Additionally, we used the resort activities booth for paddle boarding and wave runners. Every encounter was professional but fun, with a focus on safety but laid back enough to make it all around enjoyable. The convenience and experience of Pirates Cove have us already planning our return trip and recommending them to others.
