Half-Day Thoroughbred Horse Farm Tour in Kentucky

Overview
Discover why Lexington, Kentucky is known as the Horse Capital of the World on this 3.5-hour narrated tour with transportation provided on a comfortable 14-person passenger van. The tour is not all on the van, though, as destination stops are made at world famous Keeneland Race Course* and one or more of the beautiful Thoroughbred horse farms that combine to make the Lexington region the true epicenter of Thoroughbred breeding in the United States ... and beyond.

All tours are given by very experienced local guides who share a wealth of stories about the history of the local area, farms, bourbon production and the Thoroughbred horse -- the world's most desired breed for winning the world's most prestigious races.

* NOTE: All tour itineraries can vary/change depending on changing destination and farm availability on the specific day of the tour. This is true for all of the venues (including Keeneland at its discretion) and the Thoroughbred horse farms.

We read about Thoroughbred Heritage Horse Farm Tours online on a recent trip through Kentucky. On a whim we called the morning we were in Lexington to see if we could get on a tour. Larry told us all bus tours for the day were full. We were only in Lexington for the day so we asked about a Private Tour, something we never do, and Larry said he would check and call us back. It became quickly apparent this was significant to my wife so when Larry called back and said he could arrange a Private Tour with Mike, we jumped at the chance. We met Mike Huellemeier at the Embassy Suites. He was 15 minutes early, which was a good indicator of the quality of service THHFT offers. We spent the next 3.5 hours enthralled by Mike’s knowledge of everything thoroughbred related. He answered constant questions from both my wife and me while driving us to several different locations around Lexington significant to the thoroughbred world. A stop by Calumet farms set up the day which included stops at Keeneland race track, Seattle Slew’s gravesite at an AMAZING horse farm, a fantastic stop at the Old Friends farm where we got to feed and pet retired Kentucky Derby champions and other retired thoroughbreds. As we motored through the beautiful countryside, past farm after farm, Mike relayed stories and knowledge of the thoroughbred horse industry that would have taken us weeks to learn by reading books. The day ended at Magdalena Farms where we got to see and pet young foals recently born on the farm, tour the stables, and meet thoroughbreds that had raced in significant stakes races as recently as the last week. We walked the fields and enjoyed a beautiful day filled with horses and history! The tour exceeded our expectations on every level and we wouldn’t hesitate to do it again next time we pass through. Larry and Mike went out of their way to provide outstanding customer service at every turn. We could not recommend Thoroughbred Heritage Horse Farm Tours more highly and strongly believe the Private Tour provided a great value for us both!

We had a great morning going to different farms and getting very unique access to race horses! Mike was an awesome tour guide. He was very informative and even served as photographer at times :). Very much enjoyed the smaller group number of our tour- highly recommend!
