Punalu'u Bake Shop

Located at the Southernmost point in the United States, this bakery is a must-visit location. "Welcoming over 200,000 visitors from near and far every year, our bake shop is the most visited bakery in the state of Hawaiʻi. Located on Mamalahoa Highway (Route 11) in the town of Na‘alehu, midway between Kailua-Kona and Volcanoes National Park, our visitor center is a must-stop! You know you’re close when you smell the sweet aroma of our world-famous sweet bread, malasadas, and baked goods."

Punalu'u Black Sand beach

Turtles! This iconic location on the southern tip of the Big Island is home to the most recognized black sand beach anywhere on Hawaii Island. The beach has black sand made of basalt and created by lava flowing into the ocean which explodes as it reaches the ocean and cools. This volcanic activity is in the Hawaiʻi Volcanoes National Park. Punaluʻu is frequented by endangered hawksbill and green turtles, which can often be seen basking on the black sand.

We highly recommend the Kailani Tours Deluxe Volcano Tour. Our guide, Grant, was extremely knowledgeable and affable which made the stretches of driving between points of interest go by quickly. The Mercedes coach was comfortable and we got to enjoy the company of our fellow travelers. When we stopped, whether for meals or at a site, we were never rushed and Grant patiently answered all questions. Kilauea is a must see if you travel to the Big Island and we can't think of a better way to see it than with this tour company.

Our guide Bryce was incredible. He was efficient, detail oriented and very very kind. His knowledge of the island, geography, history, legends, weather/climate … everything was astonishing. He worked a 16 hour day to ensure or tour was amazing. I hope his boss reads this and appreciates him as much as we do. Long day but totally unique and worth every minute.

This tour comes highly recommended, The guide was congenial and we'll informed. The meals and snacks also very enjoyable. I have neurologist issues and PM was always ready with a wheelchair. j You cant,t miss with this one.
