Punalu'u Bake Shop

Located at the Southernmost point in the United States, this bakery is a must-visit location. "Welcoming over 200,000 visitors from near and far every year, our bake shop is the most visited bakery in the state of Hawaiʻi. Located on Mamalahoa Highway (Route 11) in the town of Na‘alehu, midway between Kailua-Kona and Volcanoes National Park, our visitor center is a must-stop! You know you’re close when you smell the sweet aroma of our world-famous sweet bread, malasadas, and baked goods."

Punalu'u Black Sand beach

Turtles! This iconic location on the southern tip of the Big Island is home to the most recognized black sand beach anywhere on Hawaii Island. The beach has black sand made of basalt and created by lava flowing into the ocean which explodes as it reaches the ocean and cools. This volcanic activity is in the Hawaiʻi Volcanoes National Park. Punaluʻu is frequented by endangered hawksbill and green turtles, which can often be seen basking on the black sand.

We did the Deluxe Volcano Tour. It was absolutely amazing. Our guide Kait was so knowledgeable and very caring. If you have to pick one tour to do on Big Island it would be this one. It’s an experience we will never forget.

Out tour guide was Bryce. He was FANTASTIC. I have done a lot of tours with Viator and had very good experiences, BUT this tour was the best. The tour company, Kailani Tours of Hawaii was very organized. We were picked up on time by Bryce in a comfortable Mercedes van with 10 other people. Bryce was informative and kept us engaged in conversation. I enjoyed all the stops especially the lunch and dinner and thoroughly enjoyed the lava cauldron. I couldn't ask for a better tour. It was Fantastic!!!!! I would highly recommend this tour. Ask for Bryce if you can.
