My husband and 2 7-year olds did the kids hike. Samantha was a fantastic guide. She was prepared to educate and entertain the kids for 2 hours and the time flew by. Sam was very knowledgeable and passionate about the Smoky Mountains and taught us all about the plants and animals that live in them.

We (2 couples) took the "Stroll Back in Time" hike & tour with A Walk in the Woods. The Smoky Mountains were not only gorgeous, but our guide was wonderful! It was an easy hike following a mountain stream. Our guide, Charles, pointed out bear runs, poison ivy, another plant that can be used to treat poison ivy, told about early settlers to the area, took us to a pioneer cemetery, then let us explore an early cabin & barn, explaining why it was built the way it was. It was so evident that Charles loves the mountains, the history, and sharing his knowledge with people. There was a family of 3 that also was with our tour, and Charles did an excellent job talking to each individual in the group and making sure everyone was included. He paced the walk to accommodate everyone. We thoroughly enjoyed our time, and would recommend A Walk in the Woods to anyone who wants to see a bit of the area and learn some of the history.

My husband and I have only used this company for its pickup and drop off services. We have spent extensive time camping and hiking in the Smoky Mts over the years, including hiking the any trails of Mt LeConte. But we had never stayed overnight at the Lodge, something that had always been on our "to do" list. We knew we wanted to stay more than an overnight, thus was a bit worried about leaving our vehicle in one trailhead parking lots. After an Internet search I found "A Walk In The Woods", called them and after a brief conversation I knew we had the perfect company. Even after a phone call, I knew we were dealing with professionals who took even a pickup/drop off service seriously. Since our original dealings with them we have used this service twice and are about to hike back up to the Lodge again, once more using these amazing folks again! The are top notch professionals, who are on time *always*, polite and know their mountains backwards and forwards! Their fees are very fair and even with our tip, I feel we are getting a great deal. Now, as mentioned, we have only used them for their drop off/pickup services, but I would not hesitate to recommend them for any of their other offerings. They teach without preaching and they know all about the history, geology, ecology - and let's not forget the animals. They are walking encyclopedias! I am certain it would be an awesome trip to hike the trails and camp with these good folks! They are the best!! Have fun and remember life is all about slowing down sometimes and breathing the good clean mountain air.
