I never truly understood how much I was missing by just plain old hiking in the mountains. I am not a master outdoorsman. I can't identify beetles and plants. Well, our guide could, and it added so much to the experience. We chose a walk specifically designed for children. While it's not amazing for adults, it was really great for the kids. And we all enjoyed hunting for salamanders, which is another thing I would have missed by hiking without a guide.

The staff is very knowledgeable and will gear their walk to your interests. I've lived in Gatlinburg for 37 years yet learned a great deal from my time on hikes with Vesna. You won't be disappointing in the experience and amazing nuances! I would be willing to walk many trails with Vesna! She's so educated and willing to share amazing historical and native stories about our Great Smoky Mountains. Top of the charts!

We met our guide, Mike, at the Smoky Mountains visitor center, which was crawling with people (even this early in the season). I dreaded hiking busy trails, bumping into people, and not really feeling like I was on a hike. Mike led us to a little pullout along the side of the road and onto an unmarked trail. For four hours we didn't see another soul, but we hiked along a gorgeous mountain stream, through a fantastic rhododendron forest, and up to an impressive rock formation. This was the highlight of our four day trip. My two teenaged sons loved it, too, and Mike gave us botany and biology lessons the whole way along (he made the educational part perfectly painless!). We will be back for a longer hike, and we will send all our friends who visit Gatlinburg to A Walk In The Woods!
