Highlights of Charleston Guided Walking Tour

Overview
Our two hour Highlights of Charleston walking tour guides guests through the historic French Quarter and South of Broad neighborhoods of downtown Charleston. Along the way, your guide will describe the long history, unique culture, architecture, and geography of Charleston and the greater lowcountry area, painting a detailed picture of how Charleston's tumultuous past formed the city now beloved by travelers the world over. You'll view some of the city's oldest houses of worship, burial sites, theaters, the forts of Charleston harbor, and the antebellum mansions that look out across the waters of the Cooper and Ashley rivers, among many other historic and picturesque sites. Our guides also offer their expert advice on other activities, restaurants, and bars for guests to explore once they've finished their tour.

This was the last of four tours we did on a trip around different cities in the south. It was by far and away the best tour by far. Our guide Matthew is INCREDIBLY knowledgeable about not only the local history but also the broader context in American and world history. His passion for Charleston is contagious. We also appreciated his recommendations for other activities, restaurants, and tips for how to get in at restaurants that were already fully booked. If you do one activity in Charleston, chose this tour, you won't regret it.

Almost went with a different walking tour, the only reason we used oyster point was based on the recommendation of said different tour. And we were soooooo glad that we did. Our tour guide was incredibly engaging and knowledgeable about everything ranging from religious history, to architecture, to current real estate. There was not one question that our group asked that she did not have the answer for. We would definitely recommend Oyster Point Tours to anyone.

Good tour to get a glimpse of Charleston history and architecture set to an historical theme Guide was very informative, clearly learned in the area and details and passionate about his city. Not sure if the attire was period dress of the guy is intentionally quirky, but he's a college professor so could be either way, and it worked well Sort of an academic themed tour which focused on why things were a certain way and encouraged one to think of reasons for this or that, which I am told reportedly almost bored members of my party but then everyone has different expectations. Guide was smart and fun and featured the amazing ability to speak for two hours almost nonstop and may well hold the 2019 Greater-Savannah record for most words used in a 2 hour period without a drink (hydrating or inspirational) to ease the burden. He can get a touch lecturey on this or that perceived or real social or environmental injustice which i guess is par for the course in a waterfront slave town and some of his witticisms from a self-anointed higher thought position landed a little flat with me so prepare for that as you might. But i can be overly critical and forgive those given the value of the knowledge that came with them. Guide was timely and accommodating to guests and others and overall a solid experience. Suggest putting a lunch on your calendar on either side of the tour to get a full feel for the historic district and shopping area. Affordable and fun way to see the city.
