Highlights of Charleston Guided Walking Tour

Overview
Our two hour Highlights of Charleston walking tour guides guests through the historic French Quarter and South of Broad neighborhoods of downtown Charleston. Along the way, your guide will describe the long history, unique culture, architecture, and geography of Charleston and the greater lowcountry area, painting a detailed picture of how Charleston's tumultuous past formed the city now beloved by travelers the world over. You'll view some of the city's oldest houses of worship, burial sites, theaters, the forts of Charleston harbor, and the antebellum mansions that look out across the waters of the Cooper and Ashley rivers, among many other historic and picturesque sites. Our guides also offer their expert advice on other activities, restaurants, and bars for guests to explore once they've finished their tour.

From ā€œhelloā€ thru the next two hours Bill displayed an extraordinary degree and depth of knowledge far beyond any other tour weā€™ve taken - anywhere, anytime. There were just a few of us on our Sunday tour and based on a brief exchange with us, he curated the tour to suit our interests. Bill KNOWS Charleston, and is a natural educator. But he was also funny, clever. Sorry we only had two hours with him. Heā€™s an opinionated guy, with strong feelings about the cityā€™s failure to (sufficiently) acknowledge itā€™s extraordinary role as the nationā€™s center for slavery. That gets thoroughly corrected during the tour but not in an very straightforward, fact filled way. We took a tour of the most beautiful street in Charleston, which is the home of many enormous estates along Legere Street. Bill knew arcane details about the houses and owners that made the tour fascinating. For lack of a better term, Bill came off very genuine and real. Admittedly, our family -including our 10 and 13 year kids - are pretty geeky/academic types. We appreciated the time with Bill greatly and recommend him without hesitation.

Palmer was a great tour guide. Very enthusiastic about Charleston's incredible history. I live in the area and have been on several tours when friends and family come to visit, but this one was of the best even on a hot August afternoon. My family thoroughly enjoyed the tour as well.

We began our week in Charleston with this two-hour walking tour, which was a great investment. The guide, who had done about 4500 tours, was down-to-earth, engaging, and very knowledgeable; the breadth and depth of his expertise was impressive, and he fielded our far-ranging questions easily. He also provided a very logical, intellectual framework for the tour, which helped me digest and retain the information throughout my stay.
