Overview
Our two hour Highlights of Charleston walking tour guides guests through the historic French Quarter and South of Broad neighborhoods of downtown Charleston. Along the way, your guide will describe the long history, unique culture, architecture, and geography of Charleston and the greater lowcountry area, painting a detailed picture of how Charleston's tumultuous past formed the city now beloved by travelers the world over. You'll view some of the city's oldest houses of worship, burial sites, theaters, the forts of Charleston harbor, and the antebellum mansions that look out across the waters of the Cooper and Ashley rivers, among many other historic and picturesque sites. I had the distinct honor and privilege of doing a private walking tour with the co- owner Bill for my birthday trip to Charleston in the beginning of August 2018. I had read such phenomenal reviews about this tour company online, that I was really looking forward to trying them and splurged on a private tour for myself and my friends. I knew very little about Charleston coming in but had asked for a tour that specialized in African American history. Bill did not disappoint, his knowledge and depth on the subject matter as it related to Charleston was phenomenal! He prepared a customized route for us that highlighted the cityā€™s deep history with slavery and plantations, and truly painted a vivid and accurate picture of how Charleston became one of the primary cities in America and the essential gateway into the country for most people of African heritage. I truly cannot recommend this company and Bill enough. The day of the tour was rainy and muggy and Bill was great about being flexible with the times. His wealth of knowledge about the city and its culture are unbelievable, and to be completely honest, Iā€™m not sure how he and his partner arenā€™t booked solid every single weekend with tours. I would highly recommend him for reunions or group trips for people who want to get a real sense of the true exciting history of Charleston, far above and beyond any such more stereotypical touristy offerings that seem to dominate the market. Iā€™m an avid traveler, and have done walking tours all around the world, most of which were absolutely amazing, but nothing compares to this! Donā€™t think twice about booking this outstanding experience

Bill was our tour guide and he is witty, incredibly knowledgeable and passionate about Charleston and his calling to ā€œeducateā€! He is a fast talker, and keeps a good pace while explaining the historic sites- churches/religion, different architectural styles, the economics of the times and also talks about the slave trade. I would highly recommend this tour!!

We had an awesome time exploring Charleston and being immersed in the culture, architecture, and history during our walking tour! Our tour guide, Palmer, did an exceptional job at pointing out everything we could have hoped to learn about the beautiful city and she was open to any questions we had. Thank you for a great time!
