Highlights of Charleston Guided Walking Tour

Overview
Our two hour Highlights of Charleston walking tour guides guests through the historic French Quarter and South of Broad neighborhoods of downtown Charleston. Along the way, your guide will describe the long history, unique culture, architecture, and geography of Charleston and the greater lowcountry area, painting a detailed picture of how Charleston's tumultuous past formed the city now beloved by travelers the world over. You'll view some of the city's oldest houses of worship, burial sites, theaters, the forts of Charleston harbor, and the antebellum mansions that look out across the waters of the Cooper and Ashley rivers, among many other historic and picturesque sites. Our guides also offer their expert advice on other activities, restaurants, and bars for guests to explore once they've finished their tour.

No, I did not quit my job because of this tour. However, I did buy a new book. After finishing our 2-hour tour of historic Charleston, I found myself curious and inspired. Our tour guide, Bill, was able to translate the history of the city in a way that transcended an abstract textbook and became a living, breathing memory of Earthā€™s past. His ability to take one piece of history and trace it back to all its vital precursors, both domestic and abroad, was astounding. So I return to my original point. This tour changed my life because it sparked me to make a decision (buy a book) I would not have made otherwise - and that is a lot to say for a 2-hour tour. Undoubtedly recommend!

My husband and I came to Charleston for our first wedding anniversary and decided we wanted to do a walking tour to make the most of our time. I'm so glad we chose Oyster Point and had Palmer as our guide. We spent 2 awesome hours with her, but easily could have spent the whole day listening to her talk so fondly of the city and its rich history. She also answered all our questions and gave us recommendations of other things to see and do. Highly recommend this tour if you're looking for something that goes through some of the sightseeing highlights of the city while providing lots of information about history (particularly the antebellum period ;)) to keep us engaged.

In contrast to other tours that simply describe landmarks or sporadic stories, our tour guide, Bill Harris, framed the tour through an economic perspective that allowed me to build a lasting narrative of the city. His passion for history, both of Charleston and more broad topics, was not only entertaining but also insightful. He was enthusiastic, charismatic, and sweaty. Very sweaty. I will definitely recommend this tour, and specifically Bill, to other friends who visit Charleston.
