Highlights of Charleston Guided Walking Tour

Overview
Our two hour Highlights of Charleston walking tour guides guests through the historic French Quarter and South of Broad neighborhoods of downtown Charleston. Along the way, your guide will describe the long history, unique culture, architecture, and geography of Charleston and the greater lowcountry area, painting a detailed picture of how Charleston's tumultuous past formed the city now beloved by travelers the world over. You'll view some of the city's oldest houses of worship, burial sites, theaters, the forts of Charleston harbor, and the antebellum mansions that look out across the waters of the Cooper and Ashley rivers, among many other historic and picturesque sites. Our guides also offer their expert advice on other activities, restaurants, and bars for guests to explore once they've finished their tour.

Palmer did a wonderful job! Her enthusiasm and knowledge on the tour made it a highlight of our trip to Charleston. We especially enjoyed how interactive the experience was. We would highly recommend booking an Oyster Point Historic tour to anyone visiting the peninsula!

Palmer was absolutely exceptional. Her knowledge of Charleston was detailed and expansive. This is NOT a tour with some memorized facts. Her vast knowledge of history shined in this tour. You could ask her anything and she knew the answer. She included the most particular details about the locations on our tour. I also enjoyed that she asked the group what interested us so that she could it could be emphasized. Do yourself a favor and book a private tour. We went with a group but will sure to book a private tour next time. Thank you Palmer for a wonderful tour!

Wow! My wife and I booked a private tour, which was led by Bill Harris. We asked him to show us the things he considered most interesting and that would offer us some historic context for what we were seeing in this beautiful city. Bill's extensive (and highly educated) knowledge of Charleston's neighborhoods and structures and of the history of the city and of European settlement in the New World, and his enthusiasm for showing us examples of the churches, houses and streets that illustrate that history, truly brought Charleston to life for us. This 2.5-hour walking tour was the highlight of our 5-day visit to this amazing city! You probably will pay more for a private tour than a large group tour, but I highly recommend it, and if you ask your Oyster Point guide to show you what they most enjoy showing, you are bound to get the most of it. Forger the horse-drawn carriages that briskly pass by everything or "standard" tours that toss out names, dates and cute anecdotes - get a truly meaningful tour, and begin to truly understand and thoroughly enjoy what you are seeing.
