Overview
Our two hour Highlights of Charleston walking tour guides guests through the historic French Quarter and South of Broad neighborhoods of downtown Charleston. Along the way, your guide will describe the long history, unique culture, architecture, and geography of Charleston and the greater lowcountry area, painting a detailed picture of how Charleston's tumultuous past formed the city now beloved by travelers the world over. You'll view some of the city's oldest houses of worship, burial sites, theaters, the forts of Charleston harbor, and the antebellum mansions that look out across the waters of the Cooper and Ashley rivers, among many other historic and picturesque sites. We had a fabulous tour with Bill. Rather than a bland recounting of names, dates and buildings, Bill crafted a fascinating narrative of the history of Charleston. I felt like I was back at college, but the added pleasure of enjoying a great lecture without having to take a test. He asked pointed questions of specific folks on the tour, all to make us more curious and engaged. I especially appreciated his honest recounting of Charleston's history with regard to slavery. When the tour was over, he continued to take questions and directed us to our next destinations.

Bill was our guide, we've been in many tours, but this one was one of our best . Bill was a wealth of knowledge, very entertaining, and a pleasure to be with. He took us from Charleston's very beginnings to its present day. I taking this tour was the highlight of our day in Charleston. We highly recommend this tour .

Bill Harris exceeded high expectations among our large group of professionals who wanted more than the standard house tour patter. He created a framework of "founding" themes for why and how Charleston has been the queen of southern cities, built on the realities of the sea trades and resulting enslaved plantations workforce. He used the streets and homes as his illustrations to solidify these themes. Two hours flew by. I will recommend him to anyone, even residents, to see Charleston as the city fits into its place of economic and people history.
