Overview

The Bitterroot National Forest is an incredibly beautiful and rugged place with amazing mountains and deep glacial canyons. The trails are not always well maintained, and often times seasonal creeks will deter folks who aren't used to water crossings. You'll be glad you brought a guide along!

The hike and packraft float is an experience unique to Bitterroot Backpacking. You will not find any other guide or company providing this service! (And if you do, they probably found the idea here!)

Luke is an outstanding guide! Our hike with him was the highlight of our trip to Montana. He made every aspect of the trip completely stress free. He answered all of my questions during the planning phase and responds to all emails super fast. The day of our hike he had all of the details planned out perfectly and was a true professional. Luke is truly a pleasure to work with and you won’t find a more knowledgeable guide. I can’t recommend Bitterroot backpacking highly enough! I will definitely be booking with Luke on all future trips to Montana!

We absolutely loved this whole trip. The hike was just perfect, not too long or strenuous for our family of 5, but the perfect amount to feel like we had earned it when we arrived at the lake. The pack rafting experience was amazing!! Luke was a great guide - knowledgeable able the plants and animals, patient with the kids’ million questions, easy and fun to talk to, and really experienced with the trail (as well as many others throughout Montana - gave us fantastic recommendations for out next stop in Glacier NP). Highly recommend!!

We greatly enjoyed the Bitterroot hike and pack raft experience. Luke was very knowledgeable and personable. He was prepared and focused on safety. The scenery was fantastic. Would do it again!
