What To Expect
1
Banyan Drive
Our first path drives us down Banyan Drive known as the "Hilo Walk of Fame" for the banyan trees planted by celebrities, such as Babe Ruth and Franklin Roosevelt and many others. These trees have withstood several tsunamis that have devastated the town of Hilo
2
Liliuokalani Gardens
This is the largest Japanese garden outside of Japan donated by Queen LiliŹ»uokalani in 1917. Throughout the gardens are stone lanterns, gazebos, and torii gates, recalling the Japanese immigrants who came to Hawaii.
3
Rainbow Falls
breathtaking 80 ft waterfall, Rainbow Falls. These beautiful falls get their name from the rainbow that is often visible in the mist that rises as the water cascades to the rocks 80 feet below.
4
Big Island Candies
Big Island Candies was established in 1977 to manufacture and market fine quality macadamia nut candies and cookies using 100 percent Hawaii-grown macadamia nuts and Kona coffee, island eggs, real butter, and high-grade chocolate. Since its founding, Big Island Candies has continuously introduced new and imaginative products that "wow" both the eyes and taste buds of its growing legion of fans.
5
Hawaii Volcanoes National Park
We will then make our way to the summit of Kilauea volcano at the Volcanoes National Park, the most highly regarded and revered volcanic area on Earth. The Park highlights two of the world's most active volcanoes--Kilauea and Mauna Loa--and offers insights on the birth of the Hawaiian Islands and views of dramatic volcanic landscapes. At the park, you will stop at the Visitor Center, witness the spectacular collapsed caldera, steam vents, sulfur banks, and fascinating scenic lookouts. No trip to Hawaii is complete without a trip to Volcanoes National Park.
6
Nahuku - Thurston Lava Tube
We will walk through a lava tube and the guide will share information with you on how it was formed by lava. This lava tube is .4 of a mile loop trail with low lighting. Gradual stairs descending into the tube ascending stairs coming out. Not all passengers may be physically fit in which they may stay in the vehicle or outside natural scenery for this portion of the tour.
7
Richardson Beach Park
Richardson Black Sand Beach, where sea turtles are usually spotted. The Black Sand Beach is a local favorite, and is a great way to see how the ocean and volcanoes make fine black sand.
8
Manono Street Marketplace
Local Deli for a lunch stop

I am a fan of small group tours. However, this is a regular van. I have a bad back and trying to get into the seats was difficult. The van was dirty, dusty and my sinuses went nuts. The tour description did not match what was provided - no water, no snacks, no lava tubes, but that seems to be somewhat typical for Hawaii from various tours that we encountered. CHawaii tours is definitely a small operator on the islands. I had to book this last minute because a different operator (Roberts Hawaii) cancelled a similar tour without any notice from them or Viator. What I learned from this is that you have to check and double check your tours right up to the last minute.

Great tour. Dre was informative and funny. We saw multiple highlights around Harloe, including the volcano crater, orchids, macadamia nuts, waterfalls turtles and dolphins. Would highly recommend!

Tiana was our tour guide and my husband and I LOVED her! Unfortunately, the rest of the passangers were "poops" and not very engaged in the tour - but Tiana tried and tried to get some pep and fun into all of the debbie downers. I used to be a tour guide on Oahu and sometimes you just get people who aren't very fun. Tiana did the very best she could to bring aloha into our tour. Tiana was very informative and spent some time talking about her life and home on the island - we thought it was fascinating! The government shutdown limited some of the things we could see at the Volcano National Park - it was still fun to see the steam all around us! She made a quick unexpected stop for us to see sea turtles bathing on the rocks - I was thrilled! We would recommend this tour to all types of family dynamics - however, until the National Park is completely up and running - maybe think of something else for the little ones. We plan to come back to the Big Island with our adult children and grandchildren and C BIG ISLAND Tours will be our ONLY pick for tour guides!
