Hoonah Whale Tours is a family owned whale watching company that operates out of Hoonah, AK. When taking this tour you will be on a private 6 passenger boat tour that goes out into Icy Strait. During the tour will you get the chance to see all sorts of Southeast Alaska wildlife, including bald eagles, sea lions, sea otters, sometimes brown bear and orcas and of course humpback whales! Our tours last between 3 and 3.5 hours and we guarantee you'll see whales or you money back. The boat is a 6 passenger catamaran, with a walk around deck, heated cabin, and a bathroom on board. We also provide snacks and beverages.

What To Expect

Hoonah Whale Tours

When out on our whale watching tour you will be in Icy Strait (body of water) You will get to see humpback whales (guaranteed!), sea lion, sea otter, and bald eagles. You even have the chance of seeing brown bear along the beaches, orcas and puffins flying by.

I highly recommend booking directly with Hoonah Whale Tours. Jordan and Moriah are a wonderful young couple who love the area and truly want their guests to have an amazing experience. We saw two pods of whales bubble feeding, which was very impressive, as well as wheels tail-slapping and breaching. The experience on a small boat is not to be missed.

We were told about Hoonah Whale Tours by a retired sea captain. Jordan came highly recommended! We were cruising on the Royal Caribbean Radiance of the Seas and looked forward to our experience in Hoonah. Maraiya picked us up and showed us a bald eagle’s nest on our way to the docks. We boarded the Thor Too and headed out. After about 40 minutes of open seas, Jordan spotted whale spouts. We saw at least four whales and they began to put on a show; breaching, singing, slapping their tails! It was a breathtaking experience! We would highly recommend Jordan and Maraiya if you are in search of an amazing whale tour!

We where referred to Hoonah Whale Tours by another ( now retired ) tour operator. Are we ever grateful we recieved this reference. Maraiya and Jordan are running an excellent tour and should be very proud of the job they are doing. On this second trip to Hoonah we were with four kids, my wife and I. We had a superb sunny day and seas like glass. After some searching a bit we found whales, sea lions, eagles, otters, and bears. I enjoyed sitting and talking with Jordan about family and our mutual love of hunting while looking at his photo album. My son says he is returning to go duck hunting with Jordan...lol. There is zero chance we would ever take a “Cruise Tour” for this as you cannot get the same experience as only having 6 people on a boat. The muffins and hot chocolate are also a hit. Thank you so much Jordan and Maraiya for makng this day the highlight of our trip!!! The Wilsons
