Hoonah Whale Tours is a family owned whale watching company that operates out of Hoonah, AK. When taking this tour you will be on a private 6 passenger boat tour that goes out into Icy Strait. During the tour will you get the chance to see all sorts of Southeast Alaska wildlife, including bald eagles, sea lions, sea otters, sometimes brown bear and orcas and of course humpback whales! Our tours last between 3 and 3.5 hours and we guarantee you'll see whales or you money back. The boat is a 6 passenger catamaran, with a walk around deck, heated cabin, and a bathroom on board. We also provide snacks and beverages.

What To Expect

Hoonah Whale Tours

When out on our whale watching tour you will be in Icy Strait (body of water) You will get to see humpback whales (guaranteed!), sea lion, sea otter, and bald eagles. You even have the chance of seeing brown bear along the beaches, orcas and puffins flying by.

Wow!!! Highly recommend this tour. My family did the 6 person tour with Jordan and had an excellent experience. From an easy pick up, to warm drinks + muffins on board, to so many whale sightings - this tour is so worth it! The smaller size boat/group means you get every view imaginable and have time to ask the captain questions. We saw several full breaches (one just 10-15 yard off the stern!) and tons of humpbacks throughout the tour. Jordan was super dedicated to making sure we were in a good spot. Great tour all around, cannot recommend enough!

Totally wonderful experience! Capt. Jordan is a 3rd generation fisherman and knows the waters around Hoonah and Icy Straits. We saw orcas, including a baby orca, and humpbacks. Unfortunately none of them would perform for us and do a magnificent breach but you can't have everything. With just six of us and Jordan, we had a much better close-up, personal experience than some of the larger boats that sailed from our cruise ship. Jordan was very personable and went beyond the advertised 3 hr. tour in order to make sure we saw the sea lions and baby orca with mother.

What a fabulous excursion, Captain Jordan did a fantastic job showing us whales, sea lions, and otters. The whales were everywhere it seemed. Then we got treated by a group of Sea Lions. Just a fantastic day on the water and the muffins and hot chocolate were pretty exceptional as well. Great family tour company. Thanks Hoonah Whale Tours for a wonderful time.
