What To Expect

Black Hills National Forest

Once the balloon is ready, you’ll gently take to the skies for an approximate 1-hour flight over the Black Hills National Forest. If you are new to ballooning, you’ll be surprised at the silence and serenity you’ll find high above the treetops. It’s truly magical. Upon landing, the ground crew will pack the balloon while you and your pilot celebrate the flight with complimentary champagne, light snacks and a story about the origin of hot air ballooning. Flights depart at sunrise and are weather dependent and always at the discretion of your experienced pilot.

For a full refund, cancel at least 24 hours before the scheduled departure time.

Our family of 4 had a lovely flight on a beautiful morning in May. We met in Custer at 5:15 a.m., drove a couple miles to the set-up and take-off area, and flew about 3 miles to where we touched down in a goat pasture. :^) It was a fun first flight for all of us. A couple of us were a little nervous about the excursion but had no problem with the flight and were happy we said yes to the adventure! Wrapping up the flight with mimosas, cheese and crackers along with Damien's story about early hot-air ballooning was a nice way to end the outing. Damien and Mike and their crews were all very nice people!

The peacefulness. You can't imagine how quite it can be. We saw beautiful granite rock formations and hovered over an abandoned, water filled mine.

I have been to many hot air balloon festivals and watched them take off and land, always wishing I was riding in one. This was my first time riding in a hot air balloon and from start to finish it was a Perfect Experience. I booked online, followed the instructions to call the evening before, arrived the morning of, and before I knew it, I was riding in a hot air balloon! It was so calm, quiet, and peaceful. Even the landing was so smooth. I recommend this for anyone wanting to check this off of their bucket list!!!
