What To Expect

Black Hills National Forest

Once the balloon is ready, you’ll gently take to the skies for an approximate 1-hour flight over the Black Hills National Forest. If you are new to ballooning, you’ll be surprised at the silence and serenity you’ll find high above the treetops. It’s truly magical. Upon landing, the ground crew will pack the balloon while you and your pilot celebrate the flight with complimentary champagne, light snacks and a story about the origin of hot air ballooning. Flights depart at sunrise and are weather dependent and always at the discretion of your experienced pilot.

We had an epic ride during the Historic Strato Bowl Launch. Bonus was flying over large elk herd and view of Mt. Rushmore. Perfect weather and great pilot. We were treated very well and communication about flight times/location/weather go or no go, from Black Hills Balloons was very good.

What a once in a life time experience. Amazing views. We went during the Stratobowl festival. Mike was our pilot. Great sense of humor. He made the ride fun. We were up by 4:30 am to meet up with everyone by 5:30. We all piled into a van to get to the bottom of the Stratobowl. Everything was already set up when we arrived. We got to see them fill the balloon. They had a woman who offered to take your pics once you climbed into your area, which believe me isn’t a huge space, and you’re off. We saw a herd of elk running from us and a ton of cows. It’s so peaceful in the air. Landing was a little rough as we bounced several times, but everyone was holding on and laughing. I wouldn’t hesitate to do this again. Especially if Mike was our pilot.

Originally schedule this flight for July but had to postpone due to high winds...we were able to reschedule easily and it was definitely worth the wait! We had a gorgeous fall morning flight that was incredibly breathtaking. Damien was an amazing pilot...highly capable and entertaining. I would recommend this experience to anyone!
